If you’re not where you really want to be in your life right now, you’re just stuck in a place called your comfort zone. Doing what you’re used to and what you can do is easy. But if you really want to be successful, you have to get rid of what’s holding you back. Here are five reasons why your comfort zone prevents you from fulfilling yourself and what you can do to change that.
1. Without taking risks, you’ll never know yourself
Living in your comfort zone means doing things that are safe and easy. If you’re afraid to take a risk and do something that scares you or what you don’t know, you’ll never be able to figure out who you really are. Take risks, we give ourselves the opportunity to understand what test we’re made of, what we’re capable of, and where our “ceiling” is. This is what self-knowledge is. This is how we find things that motivate us and begin to see who we are and look deep within. You can’t afford this while staying in your comfort zone.
2. There is no way to grow
You can’t grow and learn by following a well-trodden path. Make your way. After all, this is a new experience, new emotions and knowledge that you lose by staying still. Just start working on it and you’ll see the results.
3. Routine = regression
The comfort zone is a place where it’s always warm and cozy, but it’s a double-edged sword. When you’re comfortable for too long, you become as lazy as possible. When you turn into another walking and talking zombie, you simply insert another spoke into the samsara wheel. Routine is part of your comfort zone. You’re probably satisfied with that right now. However, we must understand that standing still is tantamount to regression. Thus, you lose the opportunity to create and do something meaningful. But that’s only part of the problem. If you look at it globally, you are essentially depriving the whole world of a person who could change something about it. It’s sad, isn’t it?
4. When you follow the crowd, you’ll get lost in it sooner or later
Life is much more fulfilling when you are constantly searching and growing, connecting with people and “breaking walls” to release your potential. It is impossible to do all this “remotely” from your comfort zone. When you stand still, you are blown away by the flow of your life. Get out of your cozy little world and people will start noticing you. You’re not going to follow anyone anymore, you’re going to start leading. This is your chance to lead by example and show others how many opportunities lie within arm’s reach outside their comfort zone.
5. The unknown is a place where dreams come true
The unknown is where dreams come true and real life happens. And the comfort zone is like a room filled with tobacco smoke in which a flower is trying to grow. In it, your dreams just die without waiting for them to come true. So you have a choice: leave it as it is and continue just dreaming of a better life or take a step into the unknown and create your own version of reality. Yes, trying new things is always scary. And no one will ever give you a 100% guarantee of success. But mistakes and failures are also experiences. Believe me, it is better to regret what has been done than about missed opportunities.
