On the basis of a special study, Russian scientists have found out how the presence of pets in the house affects the well-being of people around them.
According to the report, the results of a special study have shown that cats and dogs can slow down the rate of human aging. The particular benefits of having a pet have been found in older people aged 60+.
It is clarified that animals reduce the risk of depression and impaired cognitive functions of the brain by increasing the feeling of happiness and joy. An additional factor is the fact that many people literally communicate with animals, take them for walks and communicate with each other, which retains an element of socialization despite their age.
An experiment involving more than 600 people made it possible to verify this. It turned out that pet owners aged at a slower rate compared to test subjects without pets.
According to the scientific conclusion, the beneficial effects of cats and dogs are due to the greater physical activity of their owners, communication, and therefore the involvement of the cognitive functions of the brain, and, in general, an overall improvement in mood, because animals give positive emotions to humans.
