Psychologist Yakuba gave advice on how to relax most effectively during the holidays

Daria Yakuba, a psychologist at Sberbank Health, told RT how to spend the New Year holidays usefully, how to have a good rest and get back to normal.

“On weekends, you shouldn’t get enough sleep over the past year. Instead, try to go to bed and wake up at the same time,” the specialist advised.

According to her, it is very important to monitor your condition: notice signs of fatigue and emotional overload in time and take breaks.

“For example, if you don’t have the energy to go to the New Year’s fair after a noisy feast, you can arrange a relaxed day with a book, a favorite movie or a hobby. Unfortunately, many people now prefer to “relax” using gadgets, scrolling through social networks and watching videos without meaning. This type of leisure time is not only a waste of time that could be spent usefully, it can lead or exacerbate health problems,” the RT source warned.

In addition to headaches, eye strain, poor posture, difficulty sleeping and other “physical” consequences, constant “sticking” to gadgets either creates or already is a risk of addiction to them, the expert explained.

“If a person is unable to spend a long time without useless consumption of content, then this may already require the help of a specialist. It is also important to know that after a long weekend, some people experience a decrease in productivity and concentration, sometimes with spleen and apathy. This is due to so-called positive stress, when adrenaline levels decrease after rest and positive emotions. This hormone is produced not only against the background of a sense of danger and negative stress. In particular, our attentiveness and efficiency depend on it,” said the psychologist.

In addition, according to her, lethargy and lack of motivation after a vacation can occur in contrast.

“Until yesterday, people hadn’t thought about work tasks and various problems, but now the weekend is over, and with it, free time. This is normal. First of all, a couple of days before the end of the long weekend, begin to gradually return to your routine. For example, resume sports if you were actively training before the New Year holidays. It is also useful to return to your usual diet and daily rituals — walking, coffee for breakfast, and so on,” Yakuba recommended.

To prevent work or school days from turning into “Groundhog Day”, plan an interesting event next weekend or any other free time, the specialist advised.

“Come up with new goals and objectives that will motivate you. For example, moving up the career ladder, traveling, or buying something you’ve been planning to save for a long time. At the same time, it’s important not to push yourself, blame or criticize if you can’t get back to work right after a vacation. Treat yourself with care, attention and care, solve everyday and work tasks at your own pace,” she concluded.
