Negative thoughts are due to the fact that you are not sufficiently aware of any aspects of life, which affects how you interact with other people. What if you could go beyond your own mind? It’s about changing the mindset. When you often think about something bad, you fuel your negative thoughts and stimulate them in every possible way. Thus, they come back to you again and form a certain pattern of thinking. You should literally try to break this pattern — that is, figure out what to do with negative thoughts when they visit you, and how to gradually get rid of them.
1. Change the direction of your thoughts.
We often limit ourselves to a binary way of thinking. In other words, there’s only black or white, a bad person or a good person for you. Try to move away from this narrow perception. Take a step back. Think about it, is there another way to solve it? Who can you contact for help? What haven’t you tried yet? Change your habits and behavior patterns.
2. Be nice to yourself.
Focus on your strengths and always praise yourself for your successes. Repeat the following phrases: “I can achieve everything I want”, “Success comes to purposeful people”, “Problems are new opportunities”, “I am human and I can make mistakes”, “I will cope with any changes in my life and will do my best.” If you want to get rid of negative thoughts, say these things to yourself every day. Do whatever it takes to make you feel better and more confident.
3. Dream big but real.
Gradually get closer to your dream, in small steps. However, do at least something to fulfill it. Do not assume that sitting still can lead you to the desired result. Negative thoughts are associated with expectations that are not true. Again, your actions are the only thing you can control. According to research, we are not always able to control our own thoughts. But we can control our plans and how to accomplish our tasks, because they help make dreams come true.
4. Turn negative thoughts into questions.
When you ask yourself questions, you start thinking about new ways to solve certain problems. Instead of “Is there something wrong with me?” , ask yourself “What are my steps to success?”. Instead of “I hate shopping,” ask yourself “How can I shop at the store faster?”. Instead of “I acted really stupid,” ask yourself “What should I do differently in the future?” Thus, your mind will be filled with new, constructive thoughts.
5. Laugh more.
If something makes you angry or upset, you’ll only hear your own negative thoughts. However, laughter and anger are mutually exclusive concepts or two polar emotions. Try to look at your disappointing or depressing circumstances from a different perspective. If you’re depressed, watch a comedy, listen to funny music. Don’t finish yourself off with melodramas and sad melodies. Choose something that can amuse you and make you smile and laugh.
