Kazakhstan has canceled the tourist fee for foreigners, the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic reports.
The rules for paying the tourist fee for foreigners were amended by the Order of the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan dated December 27, 2023. The changes will take effect on January 9, 2024.
On January 1, 2022, bed tax was introduced in Kazakhstan — a mandatory fee from foreign guests for each day of their stay at the hotel. However, a moratorium was imposed on it so that the tourism market could recover from the pandemic. The fee began to be levied in January 2023. Rates ranging from 1% to 5% of the cost of hotel rooms have been set in different regions of the country.
In October 2023, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, announced the suspension of the tourist fee for foreigners. According to him, bed tax “creates certain inconveniences for both domestic businesses and incoming foreign tourists.”
